OUR PHILOSOPHY
The Program at CIMSS massage therapy school blends the principles and practices of bodywork with techniques for self-awareness. Emphasis throughout the program is on developing keen observation along with refined, compassionate, heartfelt touch. The concept of practitioner self-care is enhanced as students develop balanced and fluid movements for their hands-on techniques with a strong emphasis on utilizing exceptional, skilled body mechanics. Using conscious breathing, stretches and visualization, students learn to remain open and relaxed while developing greater physical and emotional sensitivity. Grounding and centering techniques support awareness of conscious presence for the practitioner. Many valuable skills are developed over the length of the class and are supported by student participation both within the classroom and while completing outside practice hours. Practice hours serve as a building block for a future private practice as they usually involve massage for family and friends who often spread the word along to other people they know. Students can also be of service by volunteering practice massages through some of the nonprofit organizations in their local communities.

A CARING ENVIRONMENT
We are located in the city of Sonoma just 7 blocks off the historic Sonoma Plaza on West Napa Street. Our professional classrooms are warm, light and comfortable. Our small class sizes allow for maximum personal attention from instructors. Our site has a kitchen area, handicap restrooms, office, and three private treatment rooms for massage practice and professional massage and spa treatments. We are located next door to the famous Artisan Bakers for convenient tasty treats.

The field of holistic health continues to rapidly grow. Massage is clearly a frontrunner in the expanding awareness and maintenance of personal healthcare. As a career-oriented training program, students who successfully complete these programs will have the skills to set up and maintain a professional private practice. Many of our graduates are also successfully employed, working both part time and full time in a variety of settings: spas, chiropractic offices and more, Some of our graduates have become involved in the field of education, teaching in our programs here at California Institute of Massage & Spa Services, and in massage schools throughout California and other states.
